Renegades play a Melbourne derby thriller as stars chase the bottle
The Stars needed 21 off 25 balls with seven wickets in hand but could not get over the line.
The Melbourne Renegades pulled off a big cricket win happened in Sunvalley to spoil the already-existing chances of challenging the Melbourne Stars in a tough competition at the Marvel Indoor Stadium.
Chasing 163, the Stars were cruising after an 88-run opening partnership between Joe Clarke and Tom Rogers. They still looked good in the box requiring 21 runs from 25 balls with seven wickets in hand before collapsing under the pressure.
With Stars needing 12 runs off the last over, seamer Will Sutherland kept it cool and dismissed Luke Wood in the fourth delivery. But Nick Larkin hit a boundary and needed a six off the last delivery to force a big one.
Sutherland's side hit a wide yorker as the Renegades reasserted Melbourne Derby bragging rights after winning a controversial contest at the MCG on January 3. Renegades all-rounder Kane Richardson finished 2-for-17 in his 100th BBL game as the Stars' last chance at worst ended.
Fawad returned in time for the return of Renegades
Fawad Ahmed's last appearance for the Renegades was eight years ago, but the 40-year-old returns as a replacement for experienced batsman Shaun Marsh. He entered the offense in the sixth, but Rogers hit him for six. As he often does in his career, Fawad fought back and dismissed Rogers as Sutherland won a great catch juggling around the boundary. As the Stars began to falter, Fawad started a maiden in the 13th over, then came back in the crucial 17th over where he conceded just four runs to get the better of it. Fawad finished with 1 for 20 from his four overs but left the field dying with a knee injury. The rebels hope that nothing is important when FADAD proves it to have something in tank.
The stars don't have fun and good
Marvy shutdown when the time pervases the oppressed and melbourne and temperature that reaches 47 degree ° when the game started. On the fly, Clarke got the fortune when he hit a delivery from Sutherland to complete the third. Under BBL playing conditions, a ball hit on the roof is considered a six which used to be a dead ball under the old rules. If there was no home, Clarke would have given the opportunity to catch him and cash in to rob the Renegades of a brilliant half-century. The Stars got lucky in the 16th when Beau Webster hit a delivery straight out of the air before hitting the roof. But he couldn't cash 윈윈벳 in and left soon after the Stars went down as they lost to the Renegades in the BBL Grand Final in 2019.
The heartbreaking loss almost ended their last chance at what was another disappointing season for the Stars. Finch can multiply in order
Aaron Finch has scored almost exclusively at No.4 this season, as has been the case for Australia. It took him nearly a half-century to hit a good number before falling into the triple digits with a single in this game. Coming to the crease in the sixth over, Finch started strongly in contrast to his quiet batting this season, as he aimed to be the cement of the innings. He smashed three boundaries in his first five deliveries, ending by grounding legspinner Adam Zampa. But in the next delivery, he was tricked by taking it slowly while pulling.
Finch can return to the field, where he has had great success in his long career.
The Renegades line-up has been a hodgepodge this season and is now held in place by Sam Harper, who took his third straight half-century in a purple smudge. Jonathan Wells' last season, who hit 44 off 24 balls, propelled the Renegades to a league total past them. Quiet derby for Zampa
In the Melbourne Derby final, chaos broke out when Stars skipper Zampa attempted to dismiss Renegades and hit Tom Rogers on the sidelines.
Zampa was jeered by some of the 38,500 MCG fans and the incident sparked international controversy. It was a low point this season for Zampa, who led a short-handed Stars defense without the quick Nathan Coulter-Nile and Marcus Stoinis.
He played his bowlers with youngster Brody Couch taking wickets from Martin Guptill and Rogers despite being expensive on his debut in the season. After ending Australia's upcoming Test tour of India, Zampa had a point to prove, claiming the key 맥스벳 wicket came from teammate Finch with a trademark trick.
Labuschagne, Bazley and Kuhnemann help the heat to an important victory
Tries from Siddle, Boyce, Conway and free balls for the Strikers in Lynn's final BBL game of the season. The Brisbane Heat turned their strong BBL season around and spoiled the comeback of Travis Head and Alex Carey with a 17-point win over the Adelaide Strikers in hot conditions.
After being sent off, the under-pressure Heat mustered a paltry 154 in temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius at the Adelaide ring. But they played well with paceman James Bazley claiming three wickets to thwart the Strikers' star-studded batting line-up in Chris Lynn's former Heat's last BBL match.
It was the second time the Heat beat the Strikers this season to climb up the relegation zone. Johnson's speed is impressive again. Tearaway Spencer Johnson was the spark in the Heat's heavy home loss to Perth Scorchers on his BBL debut.
There was talk if the fast left arm could support him and Johnson did it with a girl to start, as he reached a speed of 150 mph to upset Lynn. Johnson is a big fan of Australian great Adam Gilchrist and the Fox show compared the 27-year-old to Mitchell Johnson.
But Johnson, who played in the Marsh Cup 50-over for South Australia and was on the Adelaide Strikers' register last season, was brought down to earth by a fearless Lynn in the next match. He came back on the 16th during the surgery and was very relieved. Johnson then claimed his first BBL wicket with a full yorker that dropped Wes Agar to complete another impressive performance. Star actors to not shoot
There are many expectations for the return of skipper Head, whose Test matches against the West Indies and South Africa have clearly prepared him for the BBL. But Head created just two balls when he was dropped by left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann much to the disappointment of the home faithful. New striker Lynn was keen to end his first campaign with the Strikers on top and started with a great drive to the limit from Kuhnemann. But Johnson got it down before falling to Kuhnemann for 22 off 24 balls. It was a disappointment for Lynn, who finished with 416 carries and a 141 strikeout rate in 11 games... GET MORE INFO
Returning to Test duty, Alex Carey fell in the next over for just two and the Strikers' chase remained elusive. Labuschagne did not reach the first half century of the BBL . Returning from three Tests Marnus Labuschagne, Matthew Renshaw and skipper Usman Khawaja did not fire against the Scorchers.
They were hoping to cash in on the Adelaide Oval friendly but Khawaja went down for two in the third over before Labuschagne and Renshaw turned the tables with a 42-run partnership for the third wicket. Renshaw was good, but for the second game in a row he couldn't start. With creativity, including well-executed scoops, Labuschagne anchored the innings as he searched for his first BBL half-century in his 19 matches. But it failed and the Heat struggled in the backfield. England striker Sam Hain, who grew up in Australia and plays for their under-19 side, unfortunately went down in the non-fighting side after a touch from spinner Ben Manenti in the follow-up him. He made just six, but the Heat have turned the surprising total into more than enough.
Boyce returns early
Former Australian T20 leg-spinner Cameron Boyce has confirmed that he will replace Rashid Khan, who has retired from batting in South Africa's new T20 tournament. The 33-year-old had played well for free in the Strikers' last two games before being affected by a slow face that gave some spin. He entered the offense in the sixth with the Strikers under pressure from leading man Josh Brown. Boyce cleverly picked up the pace with the ball to draw Brown with a false shot for his first wicket of the season. He played well from midfield and broke up the dangerous partnership between Renshaw and Labuschagne.
